Description
Embroidered dragon on felt souvenir from Shanghai, China given to a signalman from
The Signal Gang
of the U.S.S. Connolly in 1945 following the end of World War II,
about 12 ½ by 18 inches in its original 15 ½ by 21 inch black lacquer frame, in good condition as some of the stitching is coming loose and there are several water stains on the felt.
The crew of the Connolly went the extra yard to have their inscription embroidered on the felt and have the item framed.
The U.S.S. Connolly (DE-306) was an Evarts-class destroyer escort of the United States Navy during World War II.
She was sent off into the Pacific Ocean to protect convoys and other ships from Japanese submarines and fighter aircraft.
She performed escort and antisubmarine operations in dangerous battle areas such as Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Philippines, and returned home with two battle stars
