Description

This is the second Taiaha I am selling, this one is of slightly later manufacture period....  mid/late 19th century (1870s - 80s).
This one has a darker look  - owing to the natural dark wood itself, surface staining finish and the subsequent application of varnish (a common practice of early 20th century collectors, to preserve the wood) . The other older Taiaha I have has all natural patina (no varnish).
Minor losses to the tip of the "Arero", but, on the plus side, all 4 Paua shell eyes of the "Upoko" head are intact. The "Ate" or "Tinana" body is in great condition......
This specimen measures approx - 63 inches long (160 cms).......the head region (Arero + Upoko) measures 8 inches.
