    Description

    Up for bid is a fine old etched blown glass and pewter small tankard, likely northern European and first half of the 19
    th
    century. The piece is 5 1/2 inches tall to the top of the thumbpiece and 5 1/4 inches wide over the handle.  The hand-blown body has a thick base with a wide flat rim and a slightly domed center.  The handle is applied.  The body is decorated with etched wriggle-work swags.  The hinged lid has a ring around the handle, a beaded edge and a tall ball-end thumbpiece in the Scandinavian style.  It is monogrammed “D.S.” on the lid.  There are no marks.
    Condition on the piece is quite good.  There is minor surface wear but no damage.  A fine old piece!
